The basics

Star Wars: Unlimited from Fantasy Flight Games puts iconic heroes and villains at the head of your army. Players take turns making one action at a time, so every move matters. You win by destroying your opponent’s Base.

50+

Card deck

At least 50 cards, with up to three copies of each.

2

Arenas

Units battle in space and on the ground.

1+1

Leader and Base

Your Leader leads your army; your Base must survive.

Setting up a game

  1. Place your Leader and Base face up. Your Base shows how much damage it can take.
  2. Shuffle and draw six cards. You may redraw once.
  3. Choose two cards as resources and place them face down. Resources pay for the cards you play.
  4. Decide who takes the initiative and goes first.

The card types

Leader

Starts on its side with an ability. Once you have enough resources, it can deploy as a powerful unit.

Base

Your home. When its damage reaches its total, you lose.

Units

Space and ground units fight in their own arena.

Events and upgrades

Events are one-off effects; upgrades attach to units to make them stronger.

Aspects: cards have aspects such as Vigilance, Command, Aggression and Cunning, plus Heroism or Villainy. Playing cards outside your Leader and Base aspects costs more.

How a round works

  1. Action phase. Players take turns making one action: play a card, attack with a unit, use an ability, or take the initiative and pass.
  2. Attacking. Exhaust a unit to attack an enemy unit in the same arena, or the enemy Base. Both units deal damage equal to their power.
  3. Regroup phase. When both players pass, each draws two cards, may add one card as a resource, then readies all their cards.

The initiative: taking it means you pass for the rest of the round, but you go first in the next one, a key tactical choice.
